Holy Relic
A Cleric's Holy Relic is personal. Through it, his god grants knowledge of every Divine spell of a level he can cast. Another Cleric's relic grants nothing, and the relic adds no MP, spell accuracy or defense bonus.
Equipping the relic
A new Cleric starts with the relic on a Copper Necklace. While resting, attach or detach it from any equippable item, with no other requirement. It is separate from the item's other runes: neither changes the other. The relic grants access only while its host item is equipped. Without it, the Cleric can use Scrolls but cannot cast from personal MP, including cantrips.
Loss and the Temple tithe
The relic can be stored or dropped, but remains useful only to its owner; it cannot be shared as another Cleric's focus. If it is lost, pray at the Temple altar for a replacement. The tithe is roughly the value of a Blank Book and comes from the hero's purse. Replacing it makes the old relic stop working, wherever it is.
The gold border and sale warning
A gold border identifies the relic and the item carrying it in item-icon views. Trying to sell the relic or its host brings up a warning: You are about to sell your Holy Relic. Unequip it before selling?
- Yes: the relic moves into the bag before the host item is sold.
- No: the sale is cancelled and everything stays as it was.
The warning protects the personal relic from an accidental sale. A relic moved into the bag must be attached to an equipped item at rest before it grants casting access again.
